Sometimes you don’t need to spend a fortune to fix a decorating mistake or problem. In fact, easy and inexpensive solutions are more common than you may think. Here are six cheap and simple decorating fixes.
1) Paint. Need to update a room or give it some flair. Paint is the easiest and least expensive fix there is. With a gallon or two, about $50, you can give a room a brand new look.
2) Throws and pillows. Ok, so the sofa is getting worn and dated, but the budget won’t allow you to replace it yet. What to do? Casually drape some throw blankets across a corner and add some coordinating pillows. Don’t just put the throw over the back, have go on the corner, draping so it falls across an arm, part of the back, and over a cushion. We were selling our house and had redecorated the whole thing, but we couldn’t afford new couches even though the dog had snagged the fabric with his claws. Throws and pillows covered up the problem spots and made the boring couches look romantic and inviting.
3) Area rugs. Have a problem floor or a spot? Hide it with a rug. We had refinished hardwood floors in our first house, but there was a water stain smack dab in the middle of the room that no amount of standing could fix. We didn’t have the money to replace the floor so we bought a small oriental rug instead. While the rug seemed expensive at the time, it was cheaper than replacing half of the hardwood, added a warm luxurious feel to the room, and it has lasted nearly 20 years!
4) New cabinet hardware. Cabinets make a big statement in a kitchen or bath, but replacing them cost thousands of dollars. For a simple way to update and dress up cabinets, simply change the hardware. Get fancy knobs that make a statement. Spend a little extra than you may normally because remember how much you’re saving by not replacing your cabinets.
5) Slipcovers. Yes, slipcovers. No longer are these the horrid things your grandmother used. Now slipcovers come to be easily put on, sized to fit well, and designed to be attractive and modern. Do a Google search, and you’ll be surprised how many you can find.
6) Sponging or rag painting. Do you have a wall that’s been patched or had cracks repaired, but it’s just not as smooth as it once was? A great way to camouflage it is to sponge or rag paint the wall. The inherent texture of these painting techniques can hide a multitude of plaster and dry wall sins.
See; you don’t have to break the bank to easily fix some decorating problems.

Pet Sheepskin Rugs
If there is a sheepskin rug for you and your baby then why not one for your pet dog or cat. The animals love to snuggle up on their own sheepskin rug and they might stay off of yours.
Sheepskin rugs are fairly easy to take care of. When you first get your rug it may look flat because of the packaging. But not to worry wool bounces back very quickly. Just give it a good shake and spread out. The fold marks will fade away over a few days.
To wash your sheepskin rug use only warm or cold water. You can wash it in a machine or by hand. If you use your machine use Woolskin Sheepskin wash which is designed for sheepskin. Don’t use any regular soaps or detergents.
Lye it flat for drying or you can stretch it over a close line. Do not place in the direct sun or near artificial heat such as a heater. It can damage the rug.
If the wool curls after you wash it. Not to worry that’s its natural state and you can brush it out while it’s wet so it dries with that luxury fluffy look.
Sheepskin rugs are in a class of their own with little competition other than perhaps rabbit or bear. There are few large rugs that are as beautiful as a sheepskin rug. So why not try it for yourself?

Spring is here and decorating is in the air. We all love putting out fresh new looks in our homes this time of year, but have you thought recently about the outside? Often we’re so busy decorating or redecorating inside, we forget to do the same outside as well. So here are a few quick and easy outdoor decorating tips that will help spruce up the curb appeal of your home:
1. Paint: You can paint the entire house and trim, or simply touch up the trim alone… either way will make a huge impact on how your home looks to the passing public.
2. Porch or Patio: If you already have a porch or patio, simply putting new furniture out can make a wonderful difference in the presentation of your home. Alternatively, you can simply buy new cushions or covers for your existing patio furniture. Other quick patio spruce ups can be as simple as putting out a few flowering potted plants, adding gnomes or statues, or putting a small water fountain into the space.
3. Walkways: Having walkways outside your home add a cozy, homey and inviting feel to the overall outdoor presentation. Just a straight concrete walkway can be spruced up by putting a bit of garden bed edging along each side… putting small solar walkway lights on each side… or planting colorful annual flowers such as petunias on each side. If you don’t already have a walkway and want to create one, I think the prettiest are those made of stone. Add an extra decorative touch by making the walkway curve or wind a bit to your front door instead of leading straight there.
4. Yard ornaments: These can be as simple as a small bird house, a pole mounted outdoor lantern light, or even a wheelbarrow with flowers. Putting a little something extra in your yard defines you and your tastes, plus it gives your home a more unique personality that stands out from your neighbors.
5. Flowers, Plants, Vines & Bushes: Probably the most popular way to spruce up a yard quickly is to simply put out some pretty plants, bushes, vines and flowers. Annuals are great for adding dashes of color quickly, because you can usually buy them this time of year in bloom. To get continuous color and greenery, plant some perrenials too. Then once the annuals are starting to die out, you’ll have something to replace them. You’ll also have the added joy of seeing the perrenials sprout again for several years to come.
Real wood furniture is the most popular furniture in existence. It’s been around for hundreds of years and probably existed when the cave people got tired of squatting on the dirt floor of their caves and looked around for a better way.
The woods that are fashioned into furniture fall into three categories:
Even the term ‘hardwood’ or ‘softwood’ is deceptive. Hardwoods aren’t necessarily harder, denser material. For example, balsa wood is one of the lightest, least dense woods there is, and it’s considered a hardwood. Technically, lumber is classified based on how the tree reproduces. As a general rule, though, softwood trees are evergreen year round while the hardwoods create the gorgeous autumn foliage that we all love so much.
Hardwoods are considered the highest quality and are the most expensive. Their natural colors vary from the darkest woods to the lightest ones and and they can be stained or painted for even more variety. Hardwood furniture is least likely to warp or bend and is prized in all high quality homes. The five woods most commonly used in furniture production are cherry, walnut, oak, maple and mahogany.
Softwoods are less expensive than hardwoods, but they require extra care. Because they are less durable, it’s much easier to scratch or dent softwood furniture. In addition, they often don’t have the beautiful grains of a hardwood, and therefore don’t stain as beautifully.
Pine is an example of a softwood that is commonly used for furniture. These woods are often used in construction as well so the choicest pieces are reserved for furniture. In construction, knots and splits are common. Lots of construction lumber will not accept paint and this kind of wood is used for shelves or packing crates.
The softwood used in furniture is designated as “Appearance” lumber and includes most softwood lumber that has been custom milled to a pattern or otherwise surfaced on all four sides.
Composites are the cheapest form of wood and are literally manufactured, rather than grown.
1. Plywood: multiple layers of thin wooden sheets are glued together and pressed. Plywood is strong and resists swelling, shrinking and warping. There is some furniture made directly from plywood, but generally it is only used as a support when incorporated into furniture.
2. Particle board: sawdust and small wood chips are mixed with glue or resin which is then shaped and pressure treated. When used for inexpensive furniture, particle board is usually covered with laminate or veneer. This is necessary because particle board splits easily and the laminate prevents splitting. However, the downside is that the laminate may separate from the wood because the particle board responds to temperature and pressure changes by swelling and shrinking.
3. Hardboard: is made like particle board but it’s placed under higher pressure so it’s stronger.
4. MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard: wood particles are bonded with resin and compressed. It is harder than particle board or hardboard, and can be cut like plywood although it isn’t as strong as plywood. Some MDF is covered with melamine which is a durable plastic in a variety of colors. The exposed edges of MDF are rough and need covering with molding or some other decorative material.
Technically, furniture made from all of these wood products is “real” wood furniture, even the composites. Prices and quality range from the hardwoods down to the composites. The higher you go up the spectrum, the more you can expect to pay for your wood furniture. The good part, of course, is that with proper care hardwood furniture will last for decades or even generations. If you can afford it, always choose hardwood furniture.
A cloakroom suite is that immensely useful appendage to the downstairs lobby or lounge, which might seem difficult to fit-in during the home designing stage, but turns out to be ‘what-would-I-do-without-you’ necessity later on.
A cloakroom suite is equipped with a toilet and basin, without the bath, and it gains importance once your house becomes functional. More so, if you have children, or frequent guests!
Planning the layout of Cloakroom Suites
Finding a suitable place to squeeze in a cloakroom suite requires adequate planning and imagination. If space is a constraint, then the customary location is the dead space under the staircase. You could even consider converting an extended corner of your sitting room into a cloakroom suite.
But, if your cloakroom suite is not just an afterthought and you have space for a generous sized one, then this room can become as much of a style statement as the rest of your house. The most popular choices are basins with built-in vanity units and back-to-the-wall toilets. They come in colour or theme coordinated sets. You can focus on stylish bathroom furniture, like a sink vanity, shelves and storage cabinet or a clothes rack, to complete the look. The cloakroom basins come in compact space-saving designs with a storage cabinet under it. This maximises free space, hides all the ugly plumbing pipes and gives the cloakroom a sleek and minimalist look. Wall-hung cloakroom sinks are another option and provide a similar effect. Likewise, cloakroom toilets also come in slim and sleek designs, and depending on personal preference, you can choose either a back-to-the-wall toilet or a wall-hung toilet.

Are you looking for inexpensive ways to improve the look, feel, and value of your home? Home improvement for Canton residents doesn’t need to cost a fortune to achieve dramatic results. Here are 4 easy ways to increase your home’s value while boosting its style.
When was the last time you painted your home? A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for an interior that is looking old and tired. Day to day living can wreak havoc on your walls. After a couple of years, smudges, chips, and other imperfections start to show. Whether you want to change colors or just refresh your current color, the choices are all yours and the results will be amazing.
Don’t neglect your baseboards. When you have the paint brush out, get on the floor and give the baseboards a touch up. Also, consider touching up door frames. These areas of your home get the most abuse. So, give them a little tender loving care every now and then.
Purchase New Appliances
If you aren’t inspired to cook in your kitchen anymore, you may want to consider giving your kitchen a facelift. Kitchen remodels can cost as much as $25,000-$50,000 dollars. That’s a staggering figure, but you don’t have to gut your kitchen to get that remodeled look. Consider swapping out old appliances for shiny new ones. Depending on the appliances you choose, you’ll still spend a few thousand dollars, but the results will be worth millions.
Flooring that is in disrepair will always bring the value of a home down. Most flooring isn’t meant to last a lifetime. After several years, carpet starts looking dingy. Hardwood flooring may show scratches and vinyl flooring starts to pull away from the floor. If your budget doesn’t give you enough room to replace all the flooring in your home, just start with a room at a time. Not only will this save you money, but you won’t have your belongings shoved into one room while the rest of the house is being worked on.
Replace Old Windows
Old windows and doors aren’t doing you any favors in terms of keeping your energy costs low. If you own a home with windows and doors installed before the turn of the century, consider replacing them with energy-efficient models. Even if your windows and doors are newer it’s a good idea to inspect them yearly for cracks around the frames. These cracks should be repaired not only to keep energy costs low, but to prevent further disrepair from happening that may require full replacement.
Plan for Success
When you get ready to make home improvements, make sure to plan for success. Consult with experts in home improvement Canton to make sure you’re making changes that are going to add value to your home without breaking the bank. If you’re planning on making these improvements to make your home more attractive to buyers, it’s very important that you work with professionals who understand the value in precise improvements and will point you in the right direction.
The Fleur de Lis Design
The Fleur de Lis symbol is historically associated with the French monarchy. Here in the United States, you see influences of the Fleur de Lis design in areas where the French settled – Louisiana, St. Louis, and Louisville, and in French-Canadian regions such as Quebec. The fleur de lis emblem is seen on everything from coat of arms, to banners, paintings, and even graffiti. The New Orleans Saints logo closely resembles the Fleur De Lis, due to the French influence in that city. The Fleur de Lis symbol is historic and one that is easily recognized. It is seen around the world and has even made its way into the designs of home architecture.
The Fleur de Lis is a stylized lily, which is the French word for “flower.” In describing the symbol, it has a middle “leaf” and two smaller side leaves that curve downward. The symbol is just about always seen in some variation of this basic design. There is a small horizontal bar that wraps around the bottom of the three separate leaves, to give the appearance of a band that holds them together. The Fleur de Lis isn’t a complication design in nature, but it can be elaborated upon or seen in different colors and sizes. It is a symbol that gives off a regal distinction.
This symbol isn’t only seen on political and cultural emblems. It has stretched from a logo to a design piece that homeowners adorn their furniture with. Commonly, bath hardware will feature fleur de lis pieces that really add elegance and a sophisticated, classic touch to the room. Also, given its cultural influence, is a perfect addition for your French décor.
The Fleur de Lis is one of the many different architectural styles offered in door, window, cabinet, lighting and bathroom hardware section. Accessories adorned with this symbol include towel rings, as well as towel bars, hooks, and even tissue holders. The symbol in this towel ring is more stylized than what you would see in the basic Fleur de Lis. Here, the symbol is made up of individual, curved bars that are open between them. Additionally, a diamond adorns the front of the pattern. This Fleur de Lis piece is rich with style and elegance and it displays the different ways that you can stylize the classic French symbol. Additionally, the braided ring makes for a wonderful complimentary piece.
Try visiting Look In The Attic – they can also give you the option of having your Fleur de Lis hardware come in a polished brass, antique brass, polishec chrome, flat black or oil rubbed bronze finishes.

Here are some architectural and interior designing techniques which you can use to combine style and functionality together to create a perfect home office.
Shelves and Cabinetry
You need to have special kinds of shelves and cabinetry because these are good to save your documents and other things like stationary. Built-in shelves in the walls not only make your home office look trendier but also serve the purpose of saving your important work related commodities such as stationary. Even open shelves can be used to place trophies, or any other decorative items. You can allot each cabinet or drawer for a specific item – for instance, put magazines in one section and place a label outside the cabinet. This will help you find items easily because a more organized placement makes your working area look more professional.
Working Desk and Table
Working desk and table are the most essential parts of your home office using which you can do your official work. Be very careful while getting a table designed, make sure its height is comfortable and does carry the style along with the functionality. For instance, you can choose the one which has special pull-in drawers beneath it. These can be used to place official documents as well as other important accessories. Chair should be very comfortable so that you could easily sit on it for a long time period. The better option is to take a revolving chair because it is more comfortable to sit in and relax.
Cork Boards on the Wall
Cork boards are also one of the most important accessories of home offices because these are used to place your memos in proper order. The to-do list helps you to follow a schedule in a professional and proper way. You can either get a single big cork board placed in your home office or use multiple smaller size pieced in different shapes and designs.
If your home-office is bigger in size and there are more than two people to work in it, you can use folding screens to create privacy for each. These are not too expensive because you can simply use double corkboard in different designs and styles.
Proper lighting is necessary to concentrate. Make sure that the lighting in your workroom is not too dim or intense. Other than having the main light, you can place a table lamp as it helps doing the paperwork.
Choose Appropriate Paint Color
To maintain more of a working ambiance in your home office, you should choose paint colors such as – beige, grey, white or any other paint color of the same category. Before choosing any paint color you can consult a modern interior designer in Lahore because he, being a professional can provide you best guidance.
